Take Steps, Be Heard!

The planning for this year's Cleveland walk: Take Steps, Be Heard for the Crohn's and Colitis foundation is underway! We've been meeting to take care of the specifics: volunteers, walkers, venue, entertainment, logistics, funds, etc. 100% of the proceeds from the event go directly to the CCFA towards research!

This years event will be on Saturday June 18th, 2011 at Wade Oval at University Circle in Cleveland, Ohio. For those who don't know exactly where that is, that is the area surrounded by the Cleveland Botanical Garden, The Cleveland Museum of Art, and the Cleveland Museum of Natural History. There will be lots to do at the walk (Live Music, entertainment, games, food)as well as an after party (location of the after party TBD).

I will continue to post updates as we get closer to the event and more decisions are finalized.

In Case You Don't Know...

What are Crohn's and Colitis exactly?

Both are inflammatory bowl diseases that affect the digestive tract.  Colitis is found in the Colon only however while Crohn's can affect any part of the GI Tract.  Another difference between the two is unlike Colitis, Crohn's is believed to be an autoimmune disease (meaning the body's immune system attacks the GI Tract causing many complications).

Although there are slight differences, both have similar treatments and symptoms.  Both diseases can cause serious complications and many times require surgery to remove part of the digestive tract as part of a treatment. Steroids, anti inflammatory medications, pro-biotics, and other medications are also used as treatments.

For more information on these diseases, treatments, research and resources please visit the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America website:
